Triangular Box Theatre

Triangular Box Theatre

I made this for my Dad’s 50th Birthday (circa 1984). I wanted to make a box which reflected some of the creative things he had done with us as children. We were taken to the theatre on several occasions and Dad made us a small puppet theatre which we later embellished with a stand and side curtains, allowing us to produce many performances with lights and sounds.

The lights were operated by moving magnets over reed switches. The little winding handle was removed from a drawer and pushed through a tube to engage with the curtain spool. Little coloured footlights could also be turned on or off, at the bottom of the stage.

One drawer had an illuminated slide viewer which came on when the drawer was pulled open and also held a small selection of family slides.

(Unfortunately, I only have small photos of this box).
