Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer
Jim Burke adopts the persona of a somewhat eccentric Englishman, Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer, and even has his own entry in Wikipedia, describing him as:
“… a British parodist who performs “chap hop” — hip hop delivered in a Received Pronunciation accent. Mr. B raps, or “rhymes”, about good manners, dressing with style and dignity, sophisticated society, pipe smoking and cricket while playing the banjolele. The character is described as having grown up in Cheam and attending Sutton Grammar School.”
Although already a friend of a friend of mine, of a few years standing, I didn’t join the fray until ‘lock-down’ in the Covid-19 period, when Mr B had started a weekly Tuesday night, “Niceolation” party, for all his chums – playing and mixing a fantastic, and often eclectic, variety of music, from early evening, to sometimes into the early hours of the next morning!
This further developed into a weekly afternoon session of Mr B’s SCHOOL OF CHAP-HOP, where a few hours of chinwag with his followers, and friends from Niceolation, joined him in a mix of genial time-filling chat and frivolity, whilst Mr B played and composed new music, or animated to one of his soundtracks. This became known as “Procrstimation”.
